Why Ironman??

We are at a point in our training where we are feeling the physical and mental effects of training for Ironman. Training in the Tallahassee heat and humidity doesn't help. Our bodies feel incredible fatigue at this point and every workout becomes survival. Not to mention the emotional fatigue. As moms, we still have to go about our day just as we would whether or not we just rode 100 miles. Karen, Barbara, and I work part-time in our husband's offices and Robin works as a consultant. And we still have to pick up kids from school, taxi them around, do laundry, cook dinner, homework.....after we push our bodies to extreme physical fatigue. You may wonder why Ironman and why someone would put themselves through such physical and mental suffering. Hmmm.....there are days when that question is hard to answer. But most days, I know why. It's about accomplishment on a daily basis. It's about pushing your body to it's limits. It's about knowing you gave it all you had on that particular day. It's about learning to be strong through suffering. It's about friendship. It's about the women I train with. It's about love. And you know, its really not even about the race.

Training with the same group of women everyday brings you so much closer together. The grueling pain that is shared by everyone and the ability to overcome the intense urge to give up is the ultimate bonding experience. I could never do this without my training group. There is no doubt in my mind that God put the five of us women together for a reason. They are such a positive influence in my life and bring so much joy and laughter.

I LOVE YOU GIRLS!!!!
